Dónal taught Film Editing at The New York Film Academy , was the Mentorship Programme Director at the Cork Film Centre and has mentored and given many Masterclasses and Cinema Workshops throughout the years to adults, students and children. This work explores both artistic and industry-standard approaches to making films and endeavours to make the myriad aspects of filmmaking accessible to even the most technically challenged.

Making creative collaborative work through the workshop process has become an integrative element of Dónal’s own film projects and in 2012 he completed a Diploma in Teaching Art Through Irish at the National College of Art & Design (NCAD) in Dublin to further foster this aspect of his own work-practice.

Films made by participants of Donal’s Cinema Workshops have gone on to win awards and to screen at festivals worldwide.
